CAP2 Exam Week Preparation
We are now coming to the business end of study leave with exam week just a week away. A lot of the hard work (hopefully!) has been complete but it is important that you also take some time to prepare for the exam week itself to ensure you perform to the best of your ability on those four important days. With that in mind, I have provided a couple of pointers to CAP2 students to help them prepare for exam week and things to consider during the week as well.
Preparing for Exam Week
- You should do a trial run to get to your exam venue. Issues such as traffic, public transport options, how you will transport your books/materials etc should all be bedded down well in advance of exam week.
- Prepare a checklist for each subject about a week before the exam (as you will surely forget a few things and can top it up for a few days). This should include all the items you need to have that morning when leaving the house – e.g. textbooks, folders, calculator, ID, exam number, watch etc. Each subject will have particular items so do a list for each to have for the night before the exam.
- Make sure you read the exam regulations that you will be sent.
- Plan how you will carry your materials and lay them out at your desk – e.g. in bags or boxes? Will you need help or not with them?
- Consider a food plan – not likely to be an issue if you have gone home for the exam period but for those on their own it can be a basic thing that is overlooked. Plan ahead re breakfasts, dinners and food for the exam as you will be in no mood to go preparing food when you come home from one exam and are getting ready for the next.
Exam Week
- Review your checklist for each subject the night before the exam and leave everything in a pile together for the next morning.
- Bring water and something to eat (e.g. bar, banana etc) with you in the exam – it is four hours long so you will want something.
- Leave in plenty of time – hopefully you will have taken the route before so know about any issues in terms of morning traffic etc.
- Try and get into a solid routine for the four days in terms of time you get up, breakfast, gathering materials, journey time, dinner after exam, preparing for the next day.
- Dealing with the transition – this can be a difficult one for students who have just complete one exam and now have to start thinking about the next one. Do a small reflection on the paper just sat (if you wish) but then go for a walk to clear your head and come back to prepare for the next exam coming up.
Best of luck with the exams, you’re nearly there!
